Severe Weather

Last night I checked Yahoo Weather for Gardena and they had a "Severe Weather Alert" with a link for more information. Follow the link and see:

"A WEAK STORM SYSTEM IS EXPECTED TO BRING RAIN AND MOUNTAIN SNOW....

MOST OF THE FORECAST AREA IS EXPECTED TO RECEIVE BETWEEN ONE TENTH AND ONE QUARTER OF AN INCH OF RAIN WITH THIS STORM SYSTEM...BUT LOCAL AMOUNTS UP TO ONE HALF INCH WILL BE POSSIBLE IN THE MOUNTAINS AND NORTHERN SAN LUIS OBISPO COUNTY.

THIS SYSTEM WILL LIKELY BRING THE FIRST MOUNTAIN SNOW TO MANY OF THE ESORTS...WHICH A FEW INCHES OF ACCUMULATION POSSIBLE AT THE HIGHER ELEVATIONS."

Sure enough -- got up this morning and it was pouring! Took the Gray Beetle to work in lieu of the Motorcycle.

Christmas Lights

'Tis the season for lighting up the outside. A couple of years ago I quit using multiple wimp Christmas light timers and installed a 40 amp commercial grade timer feeding an outlet at the front of the house. I only ran one 10 gauge Romex, so I'm limited to 20 amps -- need a round Tuit to crawl the house and install the second 20 amp circuit.

Until I do, I'm limited to 12 strings of 25 C-9's -- 2.1 kilowatts:

Yeah, I know, I got a dark spot there.....

Movies on Demand

We are not at all fond of watching sports -- I have always considered sports as something you participate in, not watch. Watching others have fun does not strike me as being much fun.

We like watching movies. Over the course of the past two decades Wendy has accumulated quite a collection of movies on bETA, VHS, LD, and DVD. When we wish to watch a movie we simply pop in the tape or disk and watch the movie.

On those rare occasions that that we do not already have the movie we wish to see we can simply stop by the Internet Movie Database, look up the movie, check the ratings, plot summary, reviews, and click on the purchase option. This is Movies on Demand, stage one. It takes a week, give or take a bit, before you can actually watch the movie.

The latest in Buzz phrasing is Movies on Demand! This sounds neat. When we want to watch a movie we can simply type in which one and watch it --on demand.

Ah.... seems it does not work that way. Stopped by the Dish Network and read the blurbs and caught a line that did not look too good to me...

Under the heading, "How Movies On Demand Work" (grammar nit - "movies" (plural) work, "Movies On Demand" (singular) works -- they work, he works) bullet two -- Select a movie from the "Now Showing" or "Featured Movies" listings.... HUH?? I can only demand a movie from whatever short list they have put up for the current month? That is not "On Demand!" That is not the instant gratification the name would have you expecting.

Not so bad

Turning 60 wasn't as bad as turning 59.

We went to Northwoods Inn, they have a 25 ounce Porterhouse for $30 or so, baked potato, rice, a unique salad (take some from bowl A and some from bowl B) washed down with draft Sierra Nevada Pale Ale.

The Northwoods has excellent food in a California Casual setting. No reservations accepted -- first come, first served. Even on a Saturday evening we only had about a 10 minute wait. While you're waiting for your table you can nosh on the piles of peanuts the have sitting on tables in the waiting area -- just toss the shells on the floor. They'll even bring you a drink, no having to go off to the bar area to get it yourself.

Daylight Saving Time

Yeah, it's been a while since the fallback, but I figure others need to see just how wonderful Daylight Saving Time is.

I was riding to work in the dark, riding home under a sun fairly well up in the sky. With DST my morning ride is into the rising sun. My ride home, right, is into the setting sun.

I'm an idiot

Over on The Savage Forum another person mentioned not being able to post pictures. Finally got me to offer THE solution -- our own website, savageriders.com. $10 a year for your own e-mail and Window's "Network Place" where you can copy and paste images that will be available to anyone on the Internet. Will be putting it up on a JaguarPC.com's Longhorn account -- 6 gigs of drive space and 6 gigs of daily bandwidth. Should suffice for 30-40 people, eh?
