Dishwasher!

The dishwasher is in and running. Had a few minor problems.

First, reading the instructions, I needed a clear 25 inches in front of the dishwasher location to open the door. Our kitchen table was 42 inches wide by 62 inches long and didn't leave much walkaround room. Definitely no room for a dishwasher door. So the table went out in the trash. (Looking at replacement tables in the 30 inch by 48 inch size.)

The kitchen cabinets are non-standard -- they are the original 1940's constructed in place. The dishwasher required 34.5 inches, floor to the underside of the countertop. I was 34.5 inches. No problem. Brought the dishwasher into the kitchen and found a glitch. The DOOR of the dishwasher is even with the top, and my countertop has a hanging lip. Which needed to be sawn off before I could slide the dishwasher in.

It requires 24 inches side to side, I was 25.5. It requires 24 inches front to back. Which is to the very edge of the countertop and about 1.5 inches further out than the original cabinets. I extended the right side by replacing the right end panel with a 34.5" x 24" x 3/4" piece of plywood. On the left side I have to build up the front of the cabinet to cover the left edge of the dishwasher. For looks.

Will get to that next week.

For the record, it's a GE Triton, with three wash arms to get to all areas, and was only $350 delivered to the back yard. (Didn't have room in the house last week with the table in the kitchen!)
